Officials at Southeast Technical College and South Dakota Mines signed a new articulation agreement.
The agreement was celebrated with a signing ceremony held at the STC campus in Sioux Falls, marking a collaboration aimed at creating a seamless educational pathway between the institutions. Under the terms of the agreement, students from STC’s civil engineering technology program can transfer 40 credits towards a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at South Dakota Mines.
“We anticipate welcoming our first cohort of students from STC this fall. The presence of marketing materials on their campus has already begun to generate interest among students keen on advancing their education with us,” said Dr. Lance Roberts, provost and vice president of academic affairs at Mines.
The articulation agreement is designed to offer flexibility and cost savings for students in the Sioux Falls area, allowing them to start their higher education close to home before transferring.
“This agreement not only benefits students but also enhances our ability to attract quality candidates who are committed to continuing their education in civil engineering,” said Dr. Roberts.
The collaboration represents the first articulation agreement between Mines and SCT, with plans to expand similar partnerships in the future.
“We are exploring additional opportunities with Southeast Tech and other disciplines, which could potentially lead to further cooperative efforts with other technical colleges in the state,” said Roberts.
The partnership between the two institutions opens up a new educational pathway with expected growth, according to Roberts.
“Southeast Tech has been an excellent partner throughout this process. The excitement shared by our faculty and staff is indicative of the collaborative spirit that drives this agreement. We look forward to the opportunities this will open for students and both institutions alike,” said Roberts.
