Seneca Coal Resources to Reopen Pinnacle Creek Coal Mine, W. Va.
A Wyoming county mine idled on Monday is back in business after a breakdown in contract negotiations.
The decision was made by leaders at Seneca Coal regarding the Pinnacle Mine in Pineville.
According to David Jackson with the United Mine Workers, management told miners at a meeting on Wednesday night that the mine would reopen on Thursday, but with 120 less workers. He says the decision was made in part because the United mine workers would not to a agree to a reduction in benefits guaranteed by their contract. Because Seneca Coal can’t break the contract guaranteed through 2017, he says staff is reducing their workforce instead.
Jackson said which miners will keep their jobs will be based on seniority.
