The Bingham Canyon Mine unveiled a new visitor center Friday morning.

The Rio Tinto Kennecott Visitor Experience in Herriman includes new exhibits like a haul truck bed and shovel scoop.

Visitors can view and walk through a replica of the historic mine tunnel, and the overlook of the operation and geotechnical monitoring equipment.

“It really gives the public an opportunity to take a look at our operations, I mean we really feel like this a large-scale learning opportunity,” said Piper Rhodes, with Rio Tinto Kennecott.

The opening comes after the visitor’s center closed after a massive mine collapse in April 2013 where over 100 workers were evacuated. Luckily, no one was injured.
