You have a chance to learn about mining history and cleanup this October when the Moab Museum is facilitating an abandoned mine reclamation site tour.

This event is a half-day field trip beginning at the Moab Museum, and it will explore the Yellowcat Mining Area north of Arches National Park. Check the Moab Museum’s website closer to the date, as they will be announcing which mines the tour will explore.

The tour begins at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 3. Participants will meet at the museum to meet the leaders of the trip and work out logistics of transportation. On the tour, you will learn about mining history and the legacies of these mines, alongside experts in mine closures and site cleanup.

It is going to be led by Utah Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program and the Department of Energy Defense-Related Uranium Mines Program.

After the tour, guests will be invited to browse the museum and expand on what they learned in the field in the museum’s galleries.

You can buy tickets on the Moab Museum website HERE. There is early bird pricing if you buy tickets before September 25. The early bird price for museum members is $30, and for non-members it’s $40. After that, prices will be $45 for museum members and $65 for non-members.
