KBL Mining Limited, as part of its continuing review of the management structure of the company, has appointed experienced mining engineer Damian Spring to the position of chief operating officer. Spring has more than 20 years’ experience operating underground and open pit mines in New Zealand, Australia, Mexico and Argentina. Spring will be based at the company’s Mineral Hill Mine in central NSW.

Damian Spring presently heads up a mining consultancy serving clients in Australasia and the Americas. Prior to that Spring was chief mining engineer for the Navidad Project, a world class silver-lead deposit in Argentina, part of Aquiline Resources Ltd, sold to Pan American Silver in late 2009. Spring holds a degree in mine engineering from the University of Auckland and is a chartered professional mining engineer of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Spring’s prime objective will be to harness significant growth opportunities beyond the currently mined Pearce deposit via managing the process of exploring, development and mine planning. Spring will also be focused on optimizing the current performance of the project.

While the focus is on long term planning and ongoing improvement of current operations, the board and its major financing partner Quintana Minerals Corporation look forward to Spring playing a key role in progressing new growth opportunities.

“Damian is a very welcome addition to lead our site based operations team, he will take a hands on role in the day to day running of the operation at Mineral Hill. He has already been involved in the long term planning for the mine beyond the current Pearse orebody, and will now spearhead the successful development of our operations going forward,” said KBL’s managing director.

Rod Griffith, the current Sydney-based chief operating officer, will hand over duties to Spring during the next two months.
