Fluor Corporation has been awarded a five-year contract by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to support the department’s cleanup mission at the Idaho Site under the Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP) Core Contract. The contract is valued at approximately $1.4 billion over five years.

The 890-square-mile Idaho site is located in the eastern Idaho high desert 38 miles west of Idaho Falls.

“We are very pleased that DOE has selected us to support the ICP Core Contract. We have a legacy in Idaho where we have worked on some of the most innovative nuclear facilities including the Materials Test Reactor, the Advanced Test Reactor and the New Waste Calcine Facility. We look forward to again being an integral part of the team helping DOE meet its mission at the Idaho site and building on the momentum that the incumbent employees have already created,” said Bruce Stanski, president of the government group at Fluor.

Fluor Idaho will focus on addressing the key elements of the ICP Core — dispositioning transuranic waste (TRU), spent nuclear fuel storage and high-level radioactive waste processing. This work will support multiple national and state regulatory agreements, including the 1995 Idaho Settlement Agreement, and to seamlessly consolidate the ICP and Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project contracts. The consolidation eliminates redundancies, integrates activities and ensures the government gets the highest return on its investment.

“While this consolidation presents significant challenges, we have a strong team — one that not only respects the outstanding work already done at the site, but also has the expertise and resources to achieve mission success on this contract. Our team has been a part of the Idaho site’s community for 50 years. We look forward to partnering with DOE to accomplish the ICP Core mission and meet the associated regulatory commitments safely, cost effectively and on time,” added Stanski.
