Fatality at Ramaco Resources’ Berwind Coal Mine, W.Va.
A miner was killed Monday morning in an incident at a McDowell County mine.
Steven H. Hively, 52, of Philippi was fatally injured Monday morning when he was pinned by an air drill at Ramaco Resources’ Berwind Mine, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice said.
Hively had 20 years of underground mining experience and many advanced mining certifications, the news release said.
“Cathy and I are truly heartbroken by this terrible accident. We ask that all West Virginians join us in praying for this man and his loved ones during this difficult time. We also ask for your prayers for all of our miners and their families. These miners display incredible courage and selflessness every day when they go to work and their bravery should never be taken for granted,” the governor said in a statement.
The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration said in a statement it is investigating the fatality. A preliminary report will be issued with a brief description about the incident. A copy of the preliminary report will be available on the agency web site HERE.
