Fatality at Arch Coal’s Huff Creek No. 1 Coal Mine, Kentucky
A man was killed Friday in a mining accident in Harlan County, Kentucky. Mark Frazier, 48, of Line Fork, Kentucky, was struck and killed by falling material around 8:15 a.m. as he was performing mine maintenance work at the Huff Creek No. 1 mine. The mine was not in production.
Frazier was a continuous miner operator with more than 14 years experience. The mine is operated by Lone Mountain Processing, Inc., a subsidiary of Arch Coal Inc.
“I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to the Frazier family,” Kentucky Energy and Environment Secretary Charles G. Snavely said. “It’s a very sad time when any coal miner gets killed in the state of Kentucky.”
