The Bureau of Land Management has approved the Robertson Mine Project in the Shoshone Range of Lander County, allowing Nevada Gold Mines to explore and mine for precious metals on approximately 5,990 total acres, most on BLM-managed public lands.

As proposed, the project is expected to last about 12 years and includes three open pits, haul roads, and associated facilities, including some ancillary facilities shared with the nearby Cortez Mine.

The company is required to restore the area to its previous state, which would occur in stages throughout the life of the mine, with final reclamation expected to be completed three years after conclusion of the project.

To ensure appropriate evaluation of potential effects to cultural resources and sites, the BLM worked closely with federal, state, Tribal, and local governments. Nation-to-nation engagement included the Duckwater Shoshone Tribe, Ely Shoshone Tribe, Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Reservation, Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone, and Yomba Shoshone Tribe.

Nevada Gold Mines is operated by Barrick Gold Corporation and is a joint venture between Barrick (61.5 percent) and Newmont (38.5 percent) that combined their significant assets across Nevada in 2019 to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world.
