American Manganese Welcomes President Trump’s Executive Order to Protect Domestic Mining Industry

American Manganese Inc has welcomed President Trump’s signing of an executive order declaring a state of emergency to address America’s dependence on China for critical minerals, saying the move will benefit the company.
American Manganese holds significant manganese resources and has a patented process to recycle lithium-ion batteries to extract cathode metals, such as lithium, cobalt and nickel — all on the critical materials list.
It believes it can help alleviate America’s material dependencies on such materials and contribute to a solution.
“The US is 100 percent import-dependent on manganese and there is no substitution for manganese in the production of steel,” the company said in a statement on Friday.
At its Artillery Peak project in Arizona, the firm has vast resources of manganese and holds a US patent which can potentially be used for the production of Electrolytic Manganese Metal (EMM) and Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide (EMD).
The company produced a pre-feasibility report in 2012 on producing EMM from Artillery Peak resources. No action was taken on this pre-feasibility report due to the falling price of manganese, which was a result of overproduction in China, the company highlighted in the release.
The US is heavily reliant on imports of numerous critical minerals, which, it says, are critical to national security and economic prosperity, despite there being significant sources of some of these minerals in the US.
Through the new order, more funding will be available to help mining projects, thereby strengthening the economy and improving US national security, noted the firm.
