Alliance Resource Partners Awards Scholarships Through Its Alliance Coal Scholars Program

Alliance Resource Partners announced the eight exemplary graduating seniors receiving college scholarships from the Alliance Coal Scholars Program. In addition, two teachers were selected by top-ranked students to receive teacher recognition awards.
The top three scholarship recipients were awarded renewable scholarships of $2,000. The next five highest-ranking recipients were awarded scholarships of $1,000. Since the program’s founding in 1997, $479,500 has been awarded in scholarships to 243 students. An additional $43,000 has been awarded to their outstanding teachers.
Scholarship award recipients are daughters or sons of Alliance Coal employees. These students are pursuing postsecondary education in college and vocational school programs. Their academic achievements, leadership in school activities, and contributions to the community are recognized.

We are pleased to continue to support high school graduates as they embark on furthering their education. We applaud the hard work and dedication of these students, their parents, and teachers,” said Paul Mackey, vice president, Employee Health and Benefits.
The Alliance Coal Scholars Program not only recognizes the achievements of these bright students and contributes to their continuing education, but also helps identify and cultivate top talent for the future.
The top three students, awarded $2,000 renewable scholarships, are:
• Dawson Estes, graduate of Union County High School in Morganfield, Kentucky; son of Steven Estes, employed by River View Coal. Dawson will major in nursing at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.
• Jaleen Koons, graduate of Grayville High School in Grayville, Illinois; stepdaughter of Brian Bell, employed by Gibson County Coal. Jaleen will major in dental hygiene at Illinois Eastern Community Colleges: Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel, Illinois.
• Tyler Kuykendall, graduate of Webster County High School in Dixon, Kentucky; son of John Kuykendall, employed by River View Coal. Tyler will major in electro-mechanical engineering at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.
The scholars receiving $1,000 awards are:
• Madilyn Fields, graduate of Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Kentucky; daughter of Timothy Fields, employed by Alliance Coal. Madilyn will major in forensic chemistry at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.
• Sophy Fields, graduate of Muhlenberg County High School in Greenville, Kentucky; daughter of Paul Fields, employed by Warrior Coal. Sophy will major in environmental studies at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky.
• Taylor King, graduate of Marion High School in Marion, Illinois; stepdaughter of Ethan Stallings, employed by Hamilton County Coal. Taylor will major in nursing at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in Carbondale, Illinois.
• Kendra McVay, graduate of Webster County High School in Dixon, Kentucky; daughter of Brian McVay, employed by River View Coal, Kendra will major in business of health at Madisonville Community College in Madisonville, Kentucky.
• Morgan Schmitt, graduate of Gallatin County High School in Junction, Illinois; daughter of Justin Schmitt, employed by River View Coal. Morgan will major in biology at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.
The Alliance Coal Teacher Achievement Awards honor the guidance and encouragement that teachers provide. The top scholarship recipients selected an elementary, junior-high, or senior-high teacher to receive the $500 award.
“We celebrate and thank all the teachers who have challenged, guided, and inspired our scholars in their personal and academic development. We extend personal congratulations to the teachers selected by our scholars,” said Mackey.
Teachers receiving this year’s awards are:
• Brian Hucker of Grayville High School in Grayville, Illinois
• Nicole Clements of Webster County High School in Dixon, Kentucky.
Scholarship America, the nation’s largest nonprofit, private sector scholarship organization administers all aspects of the Alliance Coal Scholars Program, including the selection process.
