Activists Shut Down Adani’s Abbot Point Coal Terminal, North Queensland

Daily Telegraph reported that activists have shut down a key North Queensland port for the second time in a week. Members of the militant Front Line Action on Coal protest movement locked themselves onto coal loading equipment at Adani’s Abbot Point Coal terminal, the group confirmed this morning.
A spokesman for FLAC said that “Five community members safely and peacefully locked themselves on to coal loading infrastructure north of Bowen, shutting down Adani’s Abbot Point Coal Terminal for the second time in a week.”
It said that “These actions are taking place in the lead up to the first sitting of Queensland Parliament on Monday where the Labor Government will decide on funding for a billion dollar loan towards infrastructure in support of low quality thermal coal expansion in the Galilee Basin.”
It comes after five activists from the Stop Adani movement narrowly avoided being crushed to death last Thursday.
Abbot Point Port Operations CEO Dwayne Freeman told The Bulletin the activists had risked their live.
The Bulletin understands economic impact of the shutdowns could run into the millions of dollars.
