Viscount Mining Gets Geological Assist from University of Nevada Student’s Thesis
Viscount Mining Corp just got a little help pinpointing gold and silver targets at the Cherry Creek Mining District in Nevada this fall, thanks to a recently completed master’s thesis.
The thesis, written by David Freedman at the University of Nevada, Reno, documents abundant hydrothermal mineralization — metals such as gold or silver carried by hot water and deposited in rocks — and delves into the specific mineral occurrences.
The detailed thesis helps Viscount understand the geology and geochemistry of the area, useful in modeling the mineralization and predicting where additional deposits are located.
“We are very pleased with the findings in Mr. Freedman’s thesis,” Viscount Director Mark Abrams said. “The age of the intrusions and related mineralization is very consistent with other productive precious metal mining districts in north-central and eastern Nevada.”
Viscount’s Cherry Creek operation consists of more than 400 patented and unpatented claims as well as mill rights. The company has also acquired more than 20 past silver-, gold- or tungsten-producing mines.
Investors responded well to Freedman’s work, boosting Viscount shares 5.3 Wednesday to C$0.20 in Toronto and 4.3% to US$0.15 in New York.
Freedman’s paper is entitled, “Igneous and Hydrothermal Geology of the Central Cherry Creek Range, White Pine County, Nevada.” He studied at the Ralph Roberts Center for Research in Economic Geology under the direction of geologist Dr. Michael W. Ressel.
