Trump Draws More Than 1,500 at Murray Energy’s Fundraiser Event

Donald Trump made his way to Wheeling Tuesday. The main reason for his Ohio Valley trip was an invitation by Murray Energy CEO Bob Murray.
Trump was in the Wheeling for about an hour. We are told he addressed the crowd, as did Murray. Many leaving the event seemed pleased with his speech.
“I know where he stands. He supports the coal industry and the coal miners and that’s why I am supporting him and why I invited him to the Ohio Valley,” Murray said.
More than 1,500 showed up for the private fundraiser, which required an invitation and cost $5,000 per plate. Approximately 40 protesters stood on Water Street, carrying signs and chanting next to Heritage Port.
Trump arrived quietly at the Ohio County airport and went through the backdoor at WesBanco Arena for the event. Snipers stood on the roofs of some businesses and police presence was strong throughout the downtown area.
Many attendees enjoyed dinner and the businessman’s speech. Trump says he is a “friend of coal.” Murray presented him with a personalized coal mining helmet.
Some paid big money to attend the fundraiser, while others were guests of Murray.
Those who attended say they liked what Trump had to say.
“I think he’s going to do a lot for our country and I am looking forward to seeing what he will do,” said Katie Nixon, supporter.
Murray said he paid for the event himself and it was not a Murray Energy event.
