Stanton Chase has appointed Nicholas Williams as a partner in its Dubai office. He brings almost two decades of experience spanning consulting, transactions, HR transformation and operational leadership.

Williams joins the global executive search and leadership consultancy after nine years at EY, including the past three years with EY-Parthenon, where he founded and led the firm’s HR M&A practice in the MENA region.

In that role, he led the human capital offering on more than 60 transactions covering acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, separations and restructurings. The transactions had deal values of up to $3.2 billion.

His work spanned the full transaction lifecycle, from early-stage exploration and human capital due diligence through to integration, separation and post-close stabilisation. This included operating model design, day 1 readiness, workforce cost modelling and transition service agreements, as well as identifying people-related liabilities that were not reflected in financial models.

Williams said his experience in transactions and post-merger integration repeatedly highlighted the importance of leadership and people decisions to the value ultimately realized from a deal.

“The financial model would be sound, the assets would be worth roughly what everyone said they were worth, and then nine months after close the value creation would be running slower than planned,” Nicholas Williams said, pointing to situations where leadership teams had not been assessed, key roles had not been filled before day 1 or no successors were in place when senior leaders resigned.

At Stanton Chase, Williams will focus on senior executive appointments across the Middle East’s energy, natural resources, and mining sector, covering roles including CEO, CxO functional leadership positions. His sector coverage includes oil & gas, refining and petrochemicals, power and renewables, mining, and metals.

The role builds on his industry focus at EY-Parthenon, where he advised international oil and mining companies in the region, alongside the sovereign investment offices and private equity investors active in the sector. His work spanned upstream exploration and production, midstream and infrastructure, downstream refining and petrochemicals, and the gas, chemicals, and low-carbon platforms increasingly central to the region’s energy transition.

“At Stanton Chase, my work is mostly executive search, along with the related assessment and organisation design that sits either side of an appointment,” Williams said.

In his previous roles at EY, Williams worked on projects covering topics such as operating model and organisation design, change management, and technology and systems transformation, alongside HR deal work across 14 jurisdictions.

His early career was in policing, where he spent seven years with the Metropolitan Police and Surrey Police, ultimately reaching Inspector and managing operational teams of more than 40 people. He subsequently moved into the UK Civil Service, where he held senior HR, culture and policy roles across the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and associated departments.

That operational background has shaped his approach to consulting and leadership.

“I have had to be accountable for restructures I designed, which is a different experience from presenting them,” Williams said.

“Nicholas has sat with boards through mergers and the integrations that follow them, and that is why we wanted him in our energy seat in Dubai,” said Panos Manolopoulos, Middle East and Greater China Managing Partner at Stanton Chase.

“The energy mandates we run in the region keep getting more senior. The boards commissioning them are appointing people who will still be in post when the results are counted. Nicholas has been in the room after the appointment, when the organization has to live with it. That experience across transactions and leadership made him a strong fit for the role,” added Manolopoulos.
