Resolution Copper will invest $144 million to advance the next phase of development at the project in Arizona, one of the world’s largest untapped copper deposits and a potential major new source of domestically produced copper for the United States.

The investment builds on the completion of the historic land exchange in March this year, which unlocked the next phase of the project. It will fund feasibility studies and final design engineering for the installation of development and production-level material handling equipment in both shafts and new water treatment facilities.

It will also support ongoing exploration drilling, the purchase of underground development and production equipment, as well as procurement of long lead time items such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear. An additional 50 roles will be hired including mining, geotech and geology technicians, geologists, engineers, and project services.

“This investment builds on the momentum created by the historic land exchange and marks another important step towards unlocking Resolution Copper’s potential. Resolution is one of the world’s largest untapped copper deposits and can become a major new source of copper for the United States, supporting American industry, jobs and economic growth for decades to come,” said Resolution Copper President Vicky Peacey.

“We are moving forward with urgency and discipline. This program will accelerate underground development and our path towards first copper production while maintaining safe underground operations and construction, positioning the project strongly for its next investment decision,” added Peacey.

Located near Superior, with the deposit between 5,000 and 7,000 feet underground, Resolution Copper has the potential to become one of the largest copper mines in America, create thousands of direct and indirect jobs and contribute approximately $1 billion annually to Arizona’s economy.

Resolution Copper is operated by Resolution Copper Mining, a joint venture owned 55 percent by Rio Tinto and 45 percent by BHP.

Resolution Copper is a 55:45 joint venture between Rio Tinto (55 percent) and BHP (45 percent). The proposed underground mine is located in Arizona’s Copper Triangle, approximately 60 miles east of Phoenix, and has the potential to supply up to one-quarter of annual U.S. copper demand while creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
