Queensland’s Mining Technology in the Spotlight at MINExpo 2016
Two Queensland mining technology companies are taking center stage, as they showcase new products at a US conference, and chase a bigger chunk of the US$220.4 billion North American mining market.
Minister for State Development Dr. Anthony Lynham is in the United States to attend MINExpo International 2016 in Las Vegas where he will support the launch of new products from Queensland-based companies iVolve and SmartCap tomorrow (8am Las Vegas time).
More than 20 Queensland mining equipment, technology and services (METS) companies are attending what is considered to be the biggest mining show internationally.
“Brisbane-based company iVolve is partnering with California’s Topcon Positioning Systems to produce the Integrated Mining System (IMS), a complete integrated solution for mining fleet management,” Dr. Lynham said
“iVolve’s products are used in more than 50 sites around the world by companies such as Rio Tinto and Xstrata, where their real-time machine intelligence allows for educated, quick decisions to increase productivity, reduce costs and minimize risk.”
“Queensland company SmartCap is also launching its “Life by SmartCap” to manage fatigue risk in mining operations around the world.
“’Life by SmartCap’ is one of the world’s most effective fatigue monitoring solutions that provides real-time feedback, helping drivers manage their alertness, anywhere, anytime,” Dr. Lynham said.
“The early warning alarms and real-time monitoring allows each employee to understand their alertness and maintain privacy while the system’s analytics give insights and support decisions on fatigue risk.”
Dr. Lynham said Queensland had about 800 METS companies, ranging from large contract mining companies to small specialized consultants, and employs thousands of people across the state.
“Over half of Queensland’s METS companies already export and we are regarded as the global hub for innovative mine technologies and services,” Dr. Lynham said.
“Our METS companies are estimated to be worth more than $21 billion to Queensland in gross revenue.
“They have innovative and world-class solutions to long standing productivity issues, in particular mine safety, rehabilitation and remediation processes and technologies and contract mine servicing.
“Queensland’s cutting edge METS sector is well positioned to assist energy and resource businesses meet the complex challenges of the future.”
“The Palaszczuk Government is working hard to promote and attract global investment in our METS sector, because that means more jobs for Queenslanders.”
“That’s why I am pleased to join Queensland companies at MINExpo, demonstrating the expertise, innovation and capability our state has to offer.
The Palaszczuk Government is accelerating growth in this sector including through the METS Ignited Industry Growth Center, to develop and commercialize ideas from our METS sector and in our research institutions
“The expertise available in Queensland could be what is needed to get ahead in the increasingly competitive environment of the energy and resources sector,” Dr. Lynham said.
