Paramount Receives More Environmental Baseline Approvals for Grassy Mountain Gold Mine, Oregon
Paramount Gold Nevada Corp. has received approval of two more baseline environmental reports on its Grassy Mountain gold mine project, and is on track to submit its consolidated permit application by the middle of the year.
That report was given by company officials Tuesday as they proceed through the application process led by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries.
The baseline reports are part of the permitting process the company is going through under the direction of state agencies in order to get a permit to operate the gold mine in the Grassy Mountain area south of Vale.
Instead of a process for each permitting agency, the company is working through a single consolidated process in which those state agencies, along with the Bureau of Land Management, are participating in.
“Once the DOGAMI accepts the application as complete, a permit decision should be expected in 300 days or less,” the company statement said.
“The latest baseline reports approved and accepted by DOGAMI were on grazing and recreation,” the Paramount Gold announcement said. The grazing report was approved on March 9, outlining grazing allotments, current grazing preferences, practices and strategies within the mine project area, the company said.
The recreation report was approved on March 15 and outlines recreational opportunities in the area.
These were the third and fourth baseline studies which have been approved by the state, the first two were on air quality and visual resources. The four baseline reports submitted to DOGAMI were approved without any change by one of the state agencies, the report said. There are still seven baseline studies under review, it said.
The next major step for the company is the release of its preliminary feasibility study for the proposed mine.
“We expect to release the preliminary feasibility study early next month,” Paramount CEO Glen Van Treek said, in the statement.
“The PFS is a key component of the consolidated permit application. It will also give markets a much better idea of economics of Grassy Mountain as well as reporting the project’s first ever estimate of reserves,” Van Treek said.
