MP Materials Accelerates Strategy to Reindustrialize the Rare Earth Supply Chain

In response to China’s retaliatory tariffs and export controls, MP Materials said it has ceased shipments of rare earth concentrate to China. The company said selling its valuable critical materials under 125 percent tariffs is neither commercially rational nor aligned with America’s national interest.
MP has invested nearly $1 billion to restore the full rare earth supply chain in the United States. Today, its California refinery is processing nearly half of their production, with virtually all of that material sold into markets outside China — including Japan, South Korea, and the United States.
The company continues to produce and is stockpiling concentrate while accelerating downstream operations: ramping oxide production, fast-tracking heavy rare earth separation, and bringing magnet production online in Texas.
In recent days, manufacturers across critical industries have urgently reached out in search of a secure, resilient source of materials and magnets. The company said they are uniquely positioned to answer that call. They are also in close contact with federal leaders and encouraged by their determination to support American industry — now and in the long term.
Together with its customers and U.S. government partners, MP Materials is accelerating every phase of its strategy to reindustrialize the rare earth supply chain — on American soil.
MP Materials produces specialty materials that are vital inputs for electrification and other advanced technologies. MP’s Mountain Pass facility is America’s only scaled rare earth production source. The company is currently expanding its manufacturing operations downstream to provide a full supply chain solution from materials to magnetics.
