Mining Week Launched in Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Mining industry is being celebrated this week, as the province launched Saskatchewan Mining Week this morning.
The province is a world leader in the sector, ranking first in Canada and second in the world in production by jurisdiction.
Minister Bronwyn Eyre says going forward, there are some challenges in the sector that are out of the provinces control.
“Getting product to market is the number one factor at the moment, obviously we were heartened to hear about (Bill) C-49, and the progress of that, because we need to get potash product to market, mineral product as well.”
The government is saying mining is a key contributor to the economy, as sales generated 6.6 billion dollars in 2017.
Saskatchewan Mining Association President Pam Schwann says recent growth is due to strong investment in the sector.
“Our sector has invested a significant amount of money over the last 10 years, well over $25 Billion in expanding potash operations, both existing and new mines, and also in uranium sector to take advantage of the growth and clean energy for uranium.”
The mining sector employs 30,000 people in Saskatchewan both directly and indirectly.
