Mining Engineering Firm Marshall Miller and Associates Reestablished in Bluefield, Virginia
A familiar company name in the region has been reestablished.
Marshall Miller & Associates, a long-time based Bluefield mining engineering business that was purchased by Cardno Inc. in 2012, is now a separate company again.
Scott Keim, who was president of MM&A when it was purchased and had been senior vice president with Cardno, will again be president of MM&A and one of the owners.
Ron Hite, a former mining executive with Shell, China-based Asian American Coal, is the other owner.
Keim said the purchase will ensure the company remains in the Bluefield, Va. Industrial Park, where the local Cardno office is also located, as well as retain the 50 positions.
“Ron and I are thrilled to acquire the mining group from Cardno and reestablish Marshall Miller & Associates,” he said.
Keim said he is optimistic about the coal industry and that was one of the reasons for the purchase.
“This is excellent for us,’ he said. “It keeps 50 people employed in Bluefield in engineering and geological jobs. It’s good for us and it’s good for the community.”
Keim said Cardno will keep its offices in the industrial park as well.
“Both Marshall Miller & Associates and Cardno have have established a working relationship that will continue to benefit both parties,” he said.
