The Rio Tinto Kennecott Visitor Experience at Kennecott’s Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah has opened to the public.

The visitor experience aims to educate visitors about the mine’s copper and mining practices. Guests can also discover how ore gets processed and refined to become a pure copper.

“Kennecott is committed to making a positive and lasting impact in the communities in which we operate, where so many of our employees and their families live and call home,” said managing director Nate Foster.

“Kennecott’s investment in community partnerships spanning schools, universities, museums, and nonprofit organizations totals nearly $6 million in 2026 alone and reflects our very real long-term dedication to a thriving shared future,” added Foster.

Tickets for the tour are $6.00. Children under five years old are free. Rio Tinto said most guests spend about one hour at the exhibits. Visitors are encouraged to bring a drink with them.

The tour also includes a shuttle to the mine overlook, running every 20 minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The tour will run from April 20 through October.

Rio Tinto Kennecott’s Bingham Canyon Mine was founded in 1903. It is considered the world’s deepest man-made open-pit mine and one of the top-performing mines in the world for the wealth it’s contributed to the state of Utah. The Bingham Canyon Mine operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to produce copper and other essential materials.

All proceeds will be donated to the Kennecott Charitable Foundation — a non-profit corporate foundation helping Utah residents by supporting charities that assist vulnerable populations in the Salt Lake Region, donating over $3 million to local charities since its establishment in 1992.
