The Indonesian government has been continuing to firmly supports any investment in the country’s mining industry by both foreign and local investors, without any exception.

The government was consistent in increasing mineral added value through domestic smelting process with regards to metallic mineral mining, the Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said in a statement.

“This is in line with Law of Mineral and Coal No. 4/2009 that has been followed up by the issuance of Government Regulation No. 1/2017 as a revision and follow up to the previous issued regulations.

“By referring and subjecting to such law and government regulation, the government respects all content of the agreement that has been previously agreed and declares to be valid,” the ministry said in response to a news report entitled, ‘Jakarta Mining Policy Shift Sparks Turmoil’.

“The title of the article is misleading while the news was tendentious, imbalance and discredit Indonesian government, it said in a statement.

Principally, the ministry said Indonesia’s mining policy was prioritized to materialize justice for the people and to maintain investment sustainability both for foreign and national investment.

“The government is negotiating with mining companies to achieve consensus from all parties,” it added.
