First Mining Gold Corp. has announced that they will be moving forward with a pre-feasibility study for the Springpole Gold Project, near Red Lake.

The company says their pre-feasibility study will follow on from the work completed during the preliminary economic assessment phase, which was announced in October. The pre-feasibility study will initially focus on trade-off studies and optimizations to define the ultimate project scope. The final project scope will then be incorporated into the pre-feasibility study. The company says work on the pre-feasibility study is expected to commence by the end of this month.

A community consultation was held earlier this week at Frenchman’s head in Lac Seul, and more consultations are expected for Red Lake, Ear Falls and Sioux Lookout.

According to the company’s web site, the mine is expected to have a 12-year lifespan generating about a billion dollars worth of gold, with just over 70 staff on site once constructed.
