Fatality at Alpha’s Black Eagle Coal Mine, W.Va.
One person has died in an accident at a coal mine in Raleigh County, West Virginia.
According to the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s website, the fatal incident happened Friday, Feb. 28 at the Black Eagle underground mine near the Raleigh community in Raleigh County.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration website stated that the accident was due to ‘Fall of Face, Rib, Side or Highwall.’
The mine is operated by Marfork Coal Company, a subsidiary of Alpha Natural Resources, based in Bristol, Tennessee.
No further information has been released at this time.
The incident comes a month after the death of Steven Fields, a drill operator, at the Twilight Surface Mine in Boone County.
There have been four coal mine fatalities this year, according to the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration, including one in Pennsylvania and one in Ohio.
