A Lincoln County man has died from injuries received earlier this year in a coal-mining incident, the state Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training said Friday.

Dennis J. Fillinger, 62, of Harts, died on Thursday because of complications from injuries received when he was struck by a piece of falling rock, the agency said.

The incident occurred at CK Coal Corp.’s CK Mine No. 5 in Mingo County. It happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 23, the state agency said.

Fillinger was a section foreman at the mine. He is the third coal miner killed on the job in West Virginia in 2017.
