Central Appalachian Coal Prices Nearing 2011 Level
According to the U.S. Energy Information Agency, average weekly coal prices for the Central Appalachian region are nearing 2011 levels.
In a release, the EIA labeled the week ending Oct. 26 as showing an average price of $78.95 per short ton for quality Central Appalachian Coal.
For comparison, the region saw a recent low of $39.55 per short ton during the week of Oct. 7, 2016, and a high of $81.65 per short ton during the week of Oct. 14, 2011.
Strong prices are paired with a strong export trend which maintains at the top of the five-year range.
Since the last week of September, average Central Appalachian coal prices have increased by more than 6 percent from $74.30 per short ton.
