An old lead mine an hour south of STL will be featured on the Travel Channel’s “Top Secret Swimming Holes.”

The Mine in Bonne Terre is one of the watery sites selected by the show’s producers for the series that airs at 9 p.m. on Sundays.

Doug and Catherine Goergens own and operate the mine and West End Diving in Bridgeton.

A production crew from the Travel Channel, using drones to film some footage, was in Bonne Terre on Wednesday.

“The drones give views of the mine from about 70 feet in the air,” Doug Goergens said. “It was incredible.”

The show will focus on STL maritime lawyer Jim Mondl and his son, Nick Mondl.

“It was their first time in the mine, and we followed them from having breakfast, through their briefing and then on the dive,” Goergens said.

The Rev. Jeff Lunn, pastor of the Park Church in Florissant, acted as the Mondls’ dive guide, and the local film crew consisted of Scott Fritz, Brandon Houser and Ron Jones, Goergens said.

No air date has been set for the Bonne Terre show.

“Those shows sort of run in perpetuity, but it should show up in the next four to six months,” he said.
