Bluestone Resources Closes Pinnacle Prep Plant, Lays Off Miners, W. Va.
About a dozen miners at the Pinnacle Prep Plant in Pineville in Wyoming County are apparently out of a job after the plant’s abrupt closure, WVVA reported.
Miners said as soon as work started Monday morning, it came to an abrupt end.
Jay Justice, the son of Gov. Jim Justice, operated the plant. It opened just a couple of months ago.
Miner Nick Colluci said the miners were laid off and were told it was due to market conditions.
“They called me for two weeks begging me to come back,” Colluci told the TV station. “I left a good place to come here. It’s where I started. I come back, work two months, and now I’m gone.”
Bluestone Resources released a statement about the layoffs.
“There has been a drop in the metallurgical coal market and these layoffs are necessary at this time,” the company said. “Management always regrets making any layoffs and these decisions are never taken lightly.”
The Justice-family owned business also purchased an underground mine nearby through the same company.
