The American Coal Council (ACC) praised the Trump administration’s coordinated actions by the U.S. Department of Energy, Department of the Interior, and Environmental Protection Agency aimed at strengthening coal mining, coal-fired electricity generation, and U.S. energy competitiveness.

The council emphasized coal’s critical role in energy reliability, industrial sectors like steelmaking and cement production, and national security by supporting domestic supply chains. The ACC highlighted these measures as vital for protecting jobs, ensuring grid stability, and fostering economic growth in coal communities, aiming to secure a prosperous future for coal in America.

“Today’s federal actions represent a decisive, coordinated effort to recognize and restore coal’s essential role in American energy and industry,” said Emily Arthun, CEO of the American Coal Council.

“These measures protect reliable generation, preserve family-supporting jobs, and strengthen U.S. competitiveness as electricity demand grows,” added Arthun.

• Energy Reliability: Coal remains a critical baseload fuel, ensuring grid stability during peak demand and
  extreme weather.
• Industrial Strength: From steelmaking to cement production, coal fuels essential sectors that drive American
  infrastructure.
• National Security: A robust coal industry strengthens domestic supply chains and protects against geopolitical
  risk.

The American Coal Council continues to champion policies that elevate coal’s strategic importance — not dilute it. Coal is more than a legacy fuel; it is a keystone resource for American prosperity, resilience, and innovation.

“We commend the administration for listening to the voices of coal communities, workers, and producers. This decision brings hope, jobs, and momentum to regions that have long powered America’s prosperity,” said Arthun.

On September 30, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) said it will invest $625 million to expand and reinvigorate America’s coal industry, aiming to boost energy production and support coal communities nationwide.

The American Coal Council is committed to advancing a future where coal continues to drive economic growth, ensure energy reliability, and foster innovation. By collaborating with industry leaders and communities, we aim to achieve these objectives and secure a thriving future for coal and America.
