Williams Partners Commissions First Phase of Hillabee Expansion Project, Alabama

Williams Partners has commissioned the first phase of its Hillabee expansion project to expand the capacity of the Transco pipeline system in Alabama, US.
The commissioning expands the capacity of the Transco pipeline system by around 818,410 dekatherms per day (Dth/d) to distribute Florida power generators through the new Sabal Trail pipeline.
In February last year, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) had approved the expansion project.
Hillabee expansion project, which will be constructed in three phases, will add around 1,131,730 Dt/d of pipeline capacity to the Transco system by 2021.
The second phase of the project is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2020, while the third phase is slated to be in service by the second quarter of 2021.
Hillabee project’s first phase included the development of a new compressor facility in Choctaw County, as well as modifications to the existing compressor facility.
The second phase will include the construction of around 11 miles of looping in addition to existing compressor facility modifications. Work on the second phase is expected to start in the second quarter of 2019.
Transco is a wholly owned subsidiary of Williams Partners and supplies natural gas to customers through its 10,200-mile pipeline network.
Williams Partners’ Atlantic-Gulf Operating Area Senior Vice President Frank Ferazzi said: “The Hillabee project is an important Transco expansion providing clean-burning natural gas to meet the needs of Florida’s rapidly growing power generation market.
“Together, the Hillabee and Sabal Trail projects connect Florida power generators with Transco’s Station 85 Pool, giving them direct access to robust natural gas supply basins in the Haynesville and Midcontinent area, and soon with the completion of Atlantic Sunrise, to the prolific Marcellus dry gas area in northeastern Pennsylvania.”
