Venture Global LNG Facility Boosts Plaquemines Parish Economy, Louisiana
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise toured the Venture Global LNG facility on Tuesday in Plaquemines parish. The facility, which is currently under construction, plans to provide liquid gas lowering the trade imbalance by helping to supply LNG to companies globally.
“It’s a massive facility, one of the largest in the world,” Scalise said.
Sales tax dollars from the business have already started to bring in millions to the economy in Plaquemine parish. Organizers like Michael Sabel, who’s the CEO of Venture Global LNG, said this project is going to be extremely impactful not only for this community but for various countries around the globe.
“And we’ll supply Europe, Asia, South America from this facility,” Venture Global LNG CEO Michael Sabel said.
Recently President Joe Biden banned LNG exports, making it harder to create facilities like this. Rep. Scalise said that’s why it’s important to have the right kind of energy policies to keep our nation competitive when it comes to exporting liquid gas.
“They’re going to provide about $600 billion of economic impact to the United States, in terms of global trade imbalance,” Scalise said.
Sabel said this project will produce a permanent member in the community of Plaquemines parish and it has already dramatically changed the budget in that community.
“The sales tax receipts from this facility ultimately will be in hundreds of millions of dollars locally. It’s already enabled the school district to give a raise to all the teachers and staff of the school district on the back of increased sales tax,” Sabel said.
It’s something community leaders, partners, and advocates alike appreciate like Charles Tillotson who’s the Executive Director of the Plaquemines Port.
“What it’s eventually going to bring is about one vessel per day to Plaquemine Port district, so we’re talking about an additional 365 vessels per year that will come right here within the first 50 miles of the Mississippi River,” Tillotson said.
Allowing our country to stay competitive when it comes to our nation’s global energy independence.
“Over the life of this facility, it will produce a balance of trade for the U.S. for around $600 billion over the life of the facility, 50-plus years of the facility,” Sabel said.
The Venture Global LNG site in Plaquemines parish will be the fourth largest LNG facility in the world once it’s completed. Currently, it’s still a very active construction site, but many people in the community are just happy about the boost to the economy this will bring.
