In conjunction with the annual summer gathering of the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO), the membership of TIPRO this week confirmed T. Grant Johnson as the next chairman to lead the association. His term as chairman of the TIPRO board of directors is effective immediately.

“Grant is a highly respected and connected executive, and we are fortunate to welcome him as our next chairman. We appreciate Grant’s willingness to serve and look forward to working with him in his new capacity as chairman to enhance TIPRO’s important work,” said Jud Walker, immediate past-chairman of TIPRO and CEO of EnerVest Ltd.

T. Grant Johnson, who holds more than 40 years of experience working for the energy industry, is currently the president of Lone Star Production Company (LSPC), a privately-owned corporation based in Houston that was founded in 1991 to conduct exploration and exploitation activities on properties primarily located in West Texas. LSPC currently owns interests in more than 250 producing oil and/or gas wells. It holds title to oil and gas interests in more than 90,000 acres of land. Even though LSPC’s existing ownership is non-operating in nature, it is active in the overall management of each property.

Johnson has been an involved and supportive member of TIPRO since first joining the association in 2006. The past four years, Johnson has sat on the TIPRO board of directors as a regional representative.

“TIPRO has been an incredibly impactful organization successfully advocating for the Texas oil and natural gas industry for nearly 80 years, and I am both humbled and honored to serve as its next chairman. There is no other industry more important in providing the essential energy that fuels our daily lives, and none more consequential to our state economy and national security,” said Johnson.

“I am committed to supporting TIPRO’s long-standing mission over the next two years in every way possible. I also appreciate all the individuals and companies that are engaged with the association and for the leadership of TIPRO’s staff,” added Johnson.

In addition to his roles with TIPRO, Johnson also is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), Houston Association of Professional Landmen (HAPL), West Houston Association of Professional Landmen (WHAPL), Houston Producers Forum (HPF), Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), ADAM Permian and ADAM Houston.

Johnson has held several offices for HAPL, including president in 2008-2009. He also served as president of WHAPL from 1987-1988. In 2023, Johnson was awarded AAPL’s “Lifetime Achievement” award. He also was named one of Texas Monthly/TIPRO’s “Top 15 Landmen” in 2012 and recognized in 2009 as HAPL’s “Outstanding Landman of the Year.”

Following the 2024 TIPRO summer conference, the association is also confirmed other new and returning directors for the board’s leadership, including:
• Immediate Past Chairman, Jud Walker, EnerVest
• Region 2 Director, Thomas Janiszewski, Oxy
• Region 4 Director, Robert Roosa, Brigham Royalties
• Treasurer, John Swords, Tracker Services
• Secretary, Patricia Boswell McCall, Boswell Interests

“TIPRO thanks all members of our board for their service and strong leadership. As our industry continues to navigate against an ever-changing regulatory environment and shifting market conditions, the broad range of experience and knowledge from TIPRO’s board will be vital to guiding the work of our association and allowing TIPRO to keep serving its mission of advocating for independent producers and mineral owners at all levels of government,” said TIPRO President Ed Longanecker.

Formed in 1946, the Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) advocates to preserve the ability for independents to explore for and produce oil and natural gas. The association is one of the oldest and largest oil and natural gas advocacy non-profit organizations in the state of Texas. TIPRO’s nearly 3,000 members include small family-owned businesses and the largest publicly traded independent producers, in addition to large and small mineral estates and trusts.
