Oil & Gas Leaders Discuss Future Prospects in Nice, France
Organized by Wisdom Events, the INTERGAS Summit opened its doors yesterday in France, Nice. As such, oil and gas leaders from around the globe are sharing their insights and experience as they discuss the future of natural gas, the increasing demand for sustainable energy supplies, and ways of reducing greenhouse emissions
SUSTAINABILITY - ONE OF THE MAIN TOPIC
Sustainability is one of the biggest issues not only in Oil & Gas, but also in Shipping and other industries. Therefore, it has a huge impact in research and development. At the Paris climate conference an agreement was made and later on it had a huge impact on the global economy and development of new projects and technologies.
Each day natural gas is gaining more relevance in order to ensure sustainable energy supply and reduce greenhouse emissions. “Gas is the ideal partner for renewables and will be vital in making a clean future real. But in the post-COP22 world industry and EU policymakers will need to cooperate in a coherent and constructive manner if the future EU energy mix can continue to deliver sustainable, competitive and secure energy,” Chairman of GasNaturally - Francois-Regis Moutoun said at the Intergas Summit.
Since the investments in coal are down, the prospects of gas industry are looking shabby but professionals are certain - we have the means to change what is happening in the industry. As Francois-Regis Moutoun stated, “Natural gas should be used more as an innovation than just a product”.
TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION IN GAS INFRASTRUCTURE ARE VITAL
In recent years, situation in the markets evolved and thanks to new investments, a certain progress has been made. “Currently existing infrastructure already guarantees a good level of integration between the CEE countries and western European markets. However, the development of a true regional gas market is still hampered by limited direct diversification of supplies and inadequate infrastructure integration between the countries in the region,” states As Pawel Jakubowski from Gaz System.
As the technologies go further and innovative projects are being developed, utility companies are advancing as well. “Global tendency is directed of the most effective usage of energy resources, where alternate sources such as wind and sun are utilized,” Giorgi Areshidze from SOCAR Georgia Gas concluded.
Most of the industry professionals are stating that companies are investing in understanding their customers’ needs and figuring out the technology ecosystem. This knowledge and experience enables to drive best practices and solutions. During the Intergas Summit, Luca Maria Rossi, a representative from GE Oil&Gas said that “New gas discoveries, combined with advances in technology, are making it possible to address previously insurmountable energy challenges in underserved regions of the world”.
RISING INTEREST IN THE LNG MARKETS
The Intergas concluded that LNG is of the highest concerns for all Oil & Gas professionals. One could notice that demand for small scale LNG is increasing significantly. “Global LNG liquefaction capacity is set to grow by close to 50% from now to 2021. The ramp up of additional supply has just begun and will pick up steam in 2017 and 2018,” concluded Georoy Hureau from Cedigaz.
The Intergas Summit, organized by Wisdom Events, started yesterday and attracted Oil & Gas professionals from around the world to gather to France, Nice. This year, the Intergas event is focusing on LNG but, in general, it is a platform where specialists are discussing the future of natural gas, increasing demand of sustainable energy supply and ways of reducing greenhouse emissions.
