McDermott Secures $454 Million Contract to Fabricate and Install Abkatun-A2 Platform, Mexico
McDermott International has received a $454m contract from Pemex Exploracion y Produccion for engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the Abkatun-A2 platform in Mexico.
Pemex Exploracion y Produccion is an E&P subsidiary of Mexican national oil company Pemex.
Under the contract, McDermott will provide a vertically integrated, turnkey EPCI solution to build and commission the platform. It will also provide associated structures utilizing its project management and engineering team in Mexico.
McDermott Americas, Europe and Africa vice-president Scott Munro said: “McDermott provided the most efficient and technically compliant solution leveraging our capabilities in Mexico and our recent experience with PEMEX on the successful completion of the complex PB Litoral project.
“Our fully-integrated solution will be led by our team in Mexico, including project management, procurement, engineering, fabrication and installation. This allows us to optimize all phases of the project.”
Planned to be installed in Mexico’s Bay of Campeche in 124ft of water, the Abkatun-A2 platform will provide replacement and expansion capabilities to the existing Ku-Maloob-Zaap, Cantarell and Ayatsil facilities.
Munro added: “Those efforts, coupled with key strategic decisions that maximize operations and execution in Mexico, directly contributed to the positive outcome of this award and will differentiate McDermott from our competitors for continued growth and success.”
The structures for the platform will be manufactured by McDermott at its Altamira, Mexico fabrication facility.
The company plans to utilize the Derrick Barge 50 and the Intermac 650 float-over installation vessel for the contract work which is scheduled to be completed in fourth quarter of 2018.
