Ipieca has appointed ExxonMobil’s Paul Krishna as its new chair. Paul has been an active member of Ipieca since 2009. Prior to his appointment as chair, Paul was Ipieca’s vice chair for two years and has previously served as chair of Ipieca’s Reporting Working Group. He takes over the position of chair following the retirement of Equinor’s Morten Mikkelsen.

“For me, this opportunity could not come at a more exciting time in our industry’s history. As the energy system evolves, the need for collaboration has never been greater. It is a privilege to serve as chair of an organization that brings together world leading sustainability experts from its member companies with their counterparts in various sectors to share knowledge and develop good practice to contribute to a sustainable energy transition that enhances people’s lives and cares for nature,” said Ipieca Chair Paul Krishna.

“I am delighted to welcome Paul as Ipieca’s new chair. Paul’s understanding of Ipieca combined with 35 years of international experience in the industry covering a number of sustainability, environmental, and health and safety leadership positions makes him ideal for this role,” said Ipieca Executive Director Brian Sullivan.

“In addition to congratulating Paul on his appointment, I would like to thank our outgoing chair Morten Mikkelsen. He steered Ipieca through the unprecedented challenges presented by COVID-19 and oversaw a period of great organizational development, during which Ipieca continued to grow its membership, expanded its scope to support the environmental and social performance of renewables, and introduced the Ipieca Principles as a condition of membership,” added Sullivan.

Paul Krishna brings 35 years of oil and gas industry experience to his role as Ipieca chair, which he will carry out in conjunction with his current position as ExxonMobil sustainability manager. During his 30 years with ExxonMobil, Paul has held senior leadership positions across its environment, sustainability, and health and safety units. Prior to his current role, Paul was environment, regulatory, and socioeconomics manger. Previously he has held posts including environmental programs manager, environmental engineer, and production geologist.

Ipieca is the global oil and gas association dedicated to advancing environmental and social performance across the energy transition. It brings together members and stakeholders to lead in integrating sustainability by advancing climate action, environmental responsibility, and social performance across oil, gas and renewables activities. Ipieca was founded at the request of the United Nations Environment Program in 1974. Through its non-lobby and collaborative approach Ipieca remains the industry’s principal channel of engagement with the UN.
