Greyrock Releases Flare-to-Fuels System

Greyrock has unveiled its Flare-to-Fuels system for the reduction or elimination of routine gas flaring. Using Greyrock’s Direct Fuel Production™ technology, the Flare-to-Fuels system is designed to convert associated (flare or vented) gas into clean fuels. This system is sized for installation at well pads or other production facilities.
Gas produced together with oil during the production of crude oil, also referred to as associated gas, is often flared due to lack of pipeline and processing infrastructure. Flared gas produces CO2, NOx, black carbon/ soot, and other pollutants. Impropertly operated flares can also vent substantial amounts of methane, which, according the EPA, is a greenhouse gas 25 times more potent than CO2.
The World Bank estimates that approximately 140 billion cubic meters (~5 trillion cubic feet) of natural gas is flared annually resulting in the emission of more than 300 million tons of CO2 to the atmosphere. Installation of Greyrock’s Flare-to-Fuels™ systems to convert this gas rather than flare would result in the production of more than 18 billion gallons of clean fuels per year.
Greyrock’s was recently recognized with an R&D 100 Award, having developed one of the 100 most technologically significant new products of the year.
