Gazprom Neft subsidiary Gazpromneft-Yamal has started pilot oil production from the Achimov deposits at its Severo-Samburgskoye oil field in Russia.

The oil field is located in the Purovsky district of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Gazpromneft-Yamal has recommissioned and tested the well at the block, which was drilled by the earlier license holder Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy.

The well has flow production of 120 tons per day, which is in line with planned performance.

Under the pilot project, seismic investigations will be carried out at the Severo-Samburgskoye license block.

The results will allow to estimate total oil reserves at the block, in addition to determining priority areas for drilling.

According to the company, the re-testing of a further exploratory well is planned for winter 2017 -2018 to gather detailed information on the field.

The data will also help to prepare optimum development strategy for the asset, allowing to drill several horizontal wells for multi-stage fracking of the strata.

The initial reserves of Severo-Samburgskoye field’s Achimov deposits are expected to be around 426 million tonnes of oil. During the first stage of development, the recoverable reserves are estimated to be around 72 million.

Gazprom Neft First Deputy CEO Vadim Yakovlev said: “In commencing pilot development at the Severo-Samburgskoye field Gazprom Neft has taken another step forward in developing a key production region for the company — the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

“Pilot testing of technologies for accessing the Achimov deposits will allow us to continue our research into non-traditional reserves, as well as fine-tune drilling methodologies and well finishing. Detailed investigations into the Achimov deposits will further expand Gazprom Neft’s opportunities for improving efficiencies in working with hard-to-recover deposits.”
