Cummins has introduced an upgrade to its KTA19 Gas Compression Electronic (GCE), engine integrating the FW Murphy Mass Flow Air/Mass Flow Gas (MFA/MFG) fuel system to improve performance, uptime, and reliability in field gas applications.

The KTA19GCE is a 19-liter natural gas engine widely used in gas compression operations. The new configuration, offered alongside the existing factory fuel system, is designed to better manage variability and impurities commonly found in field gas.

Fluctuations in gas composition often require manual calibration and ongoing adjustment to maintain engine performance. The FW Murphy MFA/MFG fuel system automatically adapts to these changes, helping maintain consistent operation with minimal intervention. This capability reduces the risk of unscheduled shutdowns, while increasing uptime and extending component life.

“This upgrade improves how the KTA19GCE performs in real-world field gas conditions, where fuel quality can vary significantly. By reducing the need for manual adjustments, it helps our customers maintain stable operation and meet uptime targets,” said Jiabo Zhang, PSBU Oil & Gas Market Leader.

Cummins collaborated with FW Murphy, a recognized leader in gas compression technology, to integrate the new fuel system. The MFA/MFG system enhances fuel control and responsiveness, supporting more consistent engine performance across varying operating conditions.

The FW Murphy fuel system will be offered alongside current offerings, providing customers with flexibility to select the configuration that best meets their application requirements while Cummins continues to gather customer feedback.

This upgrade expands the KTA19GCE’s capability in field gas applications, supporting more stable operation and reducing maintenance demands in challenging environments.
