Colonial Pipeline is reportedly planning to resume operations of its gasoline pipeline in Shelby County, Alabama, US as early as Saturday following an explosion which killed one worker and injured five others.

The explosion, which triggered fired, occurred on October 31 in a remote area in Alabama when a crew of contract workers were undertaking maintenance on the Colonial Pipeline-operated system.

The accident led to the closure of a major pipeline, which transports fuel from Texas to New York. The fire continued to blaze until late night, reported The Wall Street Journal.

In September, a Colonial pipeline in Shelby County faced explosion which led to the leakage of a huge gasoline. This in turn has resulted in surged prices at gas stations in parts of the region.

Colonial said it has already replaced the affected system with a new section of pipe to bypass the leak.

However, the recent blast occurred several miles away from the site where gasoline spill occurred in the recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has declared a State of Emergency due to the pipeline explosion to facilitate granting of a waiver.

The 8,850km Colonial pipeline is designed to transport more than 3 million barrels of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel between the US Gulf Coast and the New York Harbor area, reported Reuters.
