CNX Foundation Creates Transformative Internship Program to Cultivate Student Interest in Industry
Continuing the evolution of the successful Mentorship Academy initiative of the CNX Foundation, the entities have created an innovative, paid internship program committed to cultivating student interest in the energy industry through a five-month-long short service employee (SSE) initiative that exposes students to a variety of opportunities in the field.
The internship is open to Mentorship Academy students in good standing who have graduated from high school and expressed a strong interest in the energy industry. Over the course of the program, students will rotate through partners and organizations across the sector, obtaining resume-boosting experiences and credentials while jumpstarting their careers.
“Students will emerge from this internship with marketable skills that are applicable across the energy industry,” said Shani Yeldell, Psy.D., community relations manager for the Mentorship Academy.
“Our goal is to match them with full-time positions upon completion of the internship. It’s a path forward for them in the energy industry — one that can lead to a well-paid, family-sustaining career right here,” added Yeldell.
The program not only opens doors for these young professionals, but also supplies the region’s energy workforce pipeline with trained, committed, early-career employees. In addition to CNX, area participating organizations include Deep Well Services, AES Drilling, Chemstream, Diamond Technical Services, Jennmar Services, M&A, Nextier, Precision, and ShalePro. These companies will offer participants hands-on field experience, allowing them to explore various aspects of the industry and identify their areas of interest.
“The Mentorship Academy’s success is due, in large part, to the investment our mentors and partners have made in order to get these young adults in our urban and rural underserved communities ready for the workforce. This internship is the next step in that investment,” said Nick Deiuliis, CNX president and CEO and Mentorship Academy Founder.
“Our partners are willing to take the long road and invest in these students. In doing so, they are helping change our region and the future of our industry,” added Deiuliis.
CNX Foundation and participating companies recently met with candidates during a career fair-styled interview at CNX Center. The five-month program will officially begin on July 22, 2024.
