Mill Steel Appoints Pam Heglund as President
Mill Steel Co. has appointed seasoned sales leader and commercial partner Pam Heglund as president. This advancement makes Heglund the first female president of a steel service center this size. Pam’s 15-year industry tenure, and five years as vice president of sales and partner, have propelled her to this career milestone.
This appointment keeps pace with the company’s growth and strategic development under the leadership and direction of David Samrick, CEO and chairman.
In April of 2014, Mill Steel opened its largest facility to-date in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The company has experienced consistent double digit growth throughout the last decade. In January 2016, Mill Steel continued their expansion with yet another acquisition in Anderson, Indiana, adding to their geographical footprint and increasing service capabilities.
“This type of growth was anticipated with our aggressive sales strategy. Pam played an integral part in positioning Mill Steel as an industry leader and building the robust book of business we have today. I have no doubt her expert leadership will remain constant in the new position, and this progressive transition will be seamless,” said Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, Eric Lambert.
For Pam Heglund, steel was the path unsought, but meant to be. In the summer of 2000, she became Mill Steel’s first intern as she finished up her business management degree at Grand Valley State University — and so began her path in the steel industry.
As the family’s third generation steel leader, Heglund continues to carry Mill Steel’s legacy forward with the same integrity and guiding values as her grandfather, Harry S. Samrick, and uncle, David S. Samrick. Alongside fellow partners — Carl Quenneville, SVP and CCO; Eric Lambert, SVP, CFO, and COO; Joe Poot, VP Purchasing; and Rob Vella, VP Operations — the team of partners and associates will continue to execute further growth for the company.
“This appointment is very meaningful for me. I’ve watched Pam grow up in the steel industry and have always had great confidence in her decisions. She has my father’s gift as a commercial leader and it became very clear that steel truly is in her blood,” said Samrick.
Heglund is quick to give credit to her fellow partner group. She recognizes a large portion of her success has come from their mentorship throughout her career.
“One of my greatest pleasures at Mill Steel has been to work alongside Pam and observe the development of her skills with the goal of delighting our customers. Pam is a natural talent and her commercial leadership skills are the product of 15 years of listening and responding to our customers’ needs. Pam’s commitment to our people first culture and her keen grasp of our customers’ needs, position her uniquely to usher our company into the next 50 plus years of growth,” said Quenneville.
