Indian Institute of Technology Launches Mine Safety Course

The department of mining engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, is launching a new MTech program in ‘Safety, Health and Environment’.
The course will address safety measures in mining operations and emerging methods for safety management to deal with risk assessment in the industry.
“A holistic approach towards safety and health in the workplace is the need of the day, especially in India, where we think safety is somebody else’s job,” said Prof Debasis Deb, head of the department of mining.
“The new course will ensure the much needed thrive for the industry,” said Baijendra Kumar, CMD, National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).
The course is scheduled to start from the July semester and will have an intake capacity of 11.
The department will launch another MTech program in Geomechanics for Mineral and Energy Resources.
