Highfield Resources Ltd is hopeful of soon receiving an environmental impact declaration (DIA) followed by a mining concession from the Spanish government to begin construction at its Muga Potash Project in northern Spain.

The Spanish central government’s Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment in Madrid (MAGRAMA) is reviewing the environmental and social impact assessment of the project.

Under the Environment Assessment Act (Act), MAGRAMA has a period of four months plus a possible two month extension in which to issue a positive or negative DIA.

This timeline commenced for the Project on November 24, 2015.

The company was told on 5 April 2016 by MAGRAMA that it is possible for the DIA to be issued during the current caretaker government period.

Highfield’s managing director said he was confident of receiving a positive environmental declaration in the short term and a mining concession shortly thereafter.

This would enable Highfield to commence construction with the mining concession in hand.

In January 2016, the Muga Potash project was given the ultimate accolade in an independent report by fertilizer industry expert Argus FMB, which calculated the project as the highest margin, lowest cost potash project in the world.

The report said that If Muga was in production in 2015, it would have delivered a total cash margin of 61 percent for potash products delivered to customers in the target markets of Europe, Brazil, and the United States.
