The Juneau Community Foundation has thanked Coeur Alaska, along with the employees and contractor partners at the Kensington gold mine, for their donations and participation in an event that raised $20,000 to support the new Coeur Alaska Kensington Mine Juneau Schools Endowment.

“Coeur Alaska, its employees, and our community business partners all care deeply about supporting Juneau’s next generation. This contribution will help grow our new endowment, supporting Juneau’s K-12 students today and for many years to come,” said Kensington Mine General Manager Steve Ball.

Coeur Alaska, which has been part of the Juneau community since 1987, has long supported youth education in Southeast Alaska, and its newest endowment reflects this deep commitment.

Earlier this year, Coeur Alaska donated $100,000 to establish the Coeur Alaska Kensington Mine Juneau Schools Endowment, a fund aimed at sustaining student programs during budget constraints. The contribution was bolstered by a $25,000 donation from Triple Flag Precious Metals, a royalty company with ties to the Kensington operation.

This endowment ensures that auxiliary programs in the Juneau School District have a source of funding during periods of budget challenges.

“Extracurricular activities play an important role in student engagement and achievement, and we thank Coeur Alaska for supporting our students now and into the future,” Juneau School District Superintendent Frank Hauser said earlier this year.

The latest contribution to the endowment was raised during a silent auction fundraiser for Coeur Alaska employees.

Coeur Alaska, its business partners, and the employees themselves donated items ranging from custom woodworking pieces and handmade beaded earrings to a custom metal wall sign and a high-end fly rod.

“We applaud Coeur Alaska for continuing to build this wonderful endowed fund that provides support for student activities today and will continue to do so tomorrow,” said Juneau Community Foundation Executive Director Amy Skilbred.

The foundation also extended its gratitude to a long list of donor companies — AGGPRO, Alaska Aggregate Products, Alaska Seaplanes, Alaska Marine Lines, Coastal Helicopters, Dawson Construction, Goldbelt Inc., Jennmar, Northwest Mine Supply, Sandvik, Thyssen Mining Inc., and Timberline Drilling — for their generous support of the silent auction.
