Coal Silo Catches Fire at Murray Energy’s Robinson Run Mine, W. Va.

A fire was reported at the Harrison County Mine, locally known as the Robinson Run Mine, on Saturday morning.

According to the Lumberport Volunteer Fire Department, the fire began in a silo at approximately 11:15 a.m. Crews were still on scene battling the fire at approximately 3:15 p.m., according to the Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Department.

The Harrison County Coal Company confirmed that it experienced a minor incident, in which a small pile of oxidized coal began to smolder inside of a coal storage silo. 

Personnel at The Harrison County Mine, and local fire departments, quickly inserted water into the silo and resolved the incident, according to the Murray Energy Corporation.

The Shinnston, Spelter, Worthington, Wallace and Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Departments assisted Lumberport on scene.

There is no word on the cause of the fire at this time.
