BLM Approves Kinross’ Montezuma Gold Expansion Exploration Project, Nevada
The Bureau of Land Management approved the Montezuma Gold exploration project on public lands approximately seven miles southwest of Goldfield in Esmeralda County. Kinross Gold Corporation may explore for gold by drilling on an expanded total of 250 acres within a 5,672-acre area.
Projects like this support President Trump’s executive order 14241, Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production, to boost domestic mineral production and reduce U.S. reliance on foreign minerals, enhance national security, and create jobs.
Kinross is approved to construct roads and drill at up to 48 new drill sites. The project will employ a contractor workforce of approximately 60 employees over ten years.
More information, including planning documents and the decision can be found at the BLM National NEPA Register, HERE.
The Bureau of Land Management manages about 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
