The Bureau of Land Management is considering a plan for mining exploration in the southwest Ruby Mountains in Beaverhead County.

A company called Ruby Graphite, LLC, has applied for the mining exploration activity, said BLM Dillon field office manager Cornelia Hudson. The company is not looking for anything in particular, just exploring and sampling rock.

The exploration activities include geologic mapping, rock sampling to include cores sampled with a backpack drill and geophysical surveys. The exploration is expected to take place during spring, summer and fall of 2018 and 2019.

The exploration includes BLM land in Beaverhead County as well as private land where the BLM manages the mineral estate.

The BLM’s environmental assessment will be posted online at the agency’s ePlanning website. Public comment is welcome on the exploration until November 30.
