ExxonMobil Begins Production from Hebron Field, Offshore Canada

ExxonMobil and its partners have commenced production from the Hebron field located in Jeanne d’Arc Basin, off the eastern coast of Canada, ahead of schedule.
The $14bn Hebron platform, a stand-alone concrete gravity based structure (GBS), produced the first oil from the Hebron field, which is estimated to hold more than 700 million barrels of recoverable resources.
With a peak production capacity of up to 150,000 barrels of oil per day, the platform is located about 350km offshore Newfoundland and Labrador in water depths of about 300ft.
The Hebron platform is designed to support an integrated topsides deck including living quarters and drilling and production facilities. It has capacity to store 1.2 million barrels of oil.
ExxonMobil Canada President Carman Mullins said: “Our goal since the Hebron project was announced in 2008 was to safely achieve first oil in 2017; today we delivered on our commitment.
“Hebron is an engineering and construction marvel, and thousands of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can proudly say they helped design and build the platform.”
During the eight-year construction phase, the Hebron project created about 7,500 jobs in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Exxon Mobil said.
ExxonMobil affiliate ExxonMobil Canada Properties operates the Hebron project with 35.5 percent stake while other partners include Chevron Canada with 29.6 percent interest, Suncor Energy with 21 perecent stake, Statoil Canada holding 9 percent interest and Nalcor Energy-Oil and Gas with 4.9 percent stake.
Suncor President and CEO Steve Williams said: “Hebron is a significant addition to our profitable offshore portfolio.
“It maintains Suncor’s position as the only company with ownership in all major producing assets off the East Coast of Canada.”
The Hebron project is expected to generate 600 long-term jobs and support long-term economic development opportunities in addition to generating millions in annual royalties and taxes during the production phase for the province.
